The Rev. Phillip DeVaul

Rector, Church of the Redeemer, Cincinnati

Please reflect on your participation in the life of your congregation, the diocese, and the larger community:

For the last two years I have served as rector at the Church of the Redeemer in Cincinnati. For the last year I have served on the Cathedral Chapter as well. These are the two commitments I currently have in this diocese. Before coming to Southern Ohio, I was canonically resident in Los Angeles where I served as rector of a church, on the Commission on Ministry, and on the Board of Advisors for the diocesan camp and conference center. In the larger church, I currently serve as secretary on the board of the Episcopal Evangelism Society.

Why do you feel God is calling you to serve in this position?

I am passionate about the ministry of the diocese, not simply as a loose conglomeration of congregations and institutional ministries, but as a unified body of believers who are stronger together in our proclamation of Jesus Christ, and our following Him as Lord. I have served on a diocesan level in various capacities throughout my eight years of ordained ministry, and believe I am at a place where I can grasp some of the breadth of the overall mission of our diocese. I believe God is calling me to support our bishop and diocese on the Standing Committee at this time, and I pray that my voice can be useful in the guidance of larger issues in our shared ministry.
