I have served nine straight years on our Mission Council; the last three required a waiver of our bylaws. I have served as senior warden for the last five years, two of which were between vicars. I hosted His Place (now God’s Table) for the 2020-21 fall and spring season and have helped in other ways with His Place for several years. I have provided significant support for Street Church in a variety of ways even before coming to St. John’s Columbus, while attending Trinity on the Square. Before that I served on the Trinity Vestry and worked with the In the Garden meal ministry there. I volunteered a number of years with BREAD while at Trinity. I am a reader, a chalice bearer, one of the “tech people” operating our Sunday morning camera and Zoom combination.
I feel a call because of the peace I felt when I decided to accept the invitation to submit my application for nomination. Of the several things I have pondered and pursued to fill my time in retirement, my involvement in the church is the only one that I have been able to pursue without talking myself out of being wholehearted. It just works for me. The periods of my life when I have been involved with the church and I have been the most prayerful have been the most fulfilling times of my life. God has never taken away my choice but I do feel that he has gently closed some doors while leaving this one open.
