I am on the roll of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Worthington, where I have served on several committee (Hospitality, Outreach and Social Justice)s, and as Head of the large Adult formation Comm. for over two years; I also sang in the choir. Prior to joining St. John’s I was on the Vestry at Trinity Columbus for two full terms, and was very active in the “In The Garden” ministry of that church for some 11 years. Currently am attending St. John’s Town St., where my spouse is the Deacon. Relatively new there, I am now working to plan the music program, Coffee Hour, and Adult Formation. Involvement in three diverse churches in Columbus has helped me to learn much about the Episcopal Church in our area, and to learn the strengths and challenges of these varied congregations.
I served on Diocesan Council for one 3-year term in 2016-2019. At the time I was completely new to Diocesan governance and kept a low profile in order to learn; as a member of the Budget Committee, I did indeed learn a lot about important areas of the DSO. I am applying to serve again because this is, in my opinion, a crucial time for our Diocese. What should be a strong and flourishing Diocese has been weakened over the years from lapses in leadership, lack of community and communication and isolationism, and no clear vision of mission and purpose. I want to be part of the solution. I believe my voice and views –as a person from the pews–might be helpful at this important time. We are blessed as a people and need to take a lead in bringing the message and work of Jesus to our area and the state. Somehow, we must find the unity and zeal to do that I have prayed about this, and hope and believe that another term on Diocesan Council (now that I am more experienced and informed) might be a good way to serve to try and make a positive difference.
