Resolved, that the 113th Convention of the Diocese of Southern Ohio, in response to the tragic human suffering, loss of life, unjustified discrimination, estrangement and fear that have occurred as a result of the AIDS epidemic, reaffirm its love and compassion for all who are affected by AIDS in any way, and be it further
Resolved, that this Convention direct the Diocesan Task Force on AIDS to continue its work and expand its scope, and that the Task Force be supported with a budget of $10,000 allocated from the Human Affairs and Concerns Commission 1988 budget, and that this Convention endorse the purpose statement of the Task Force, which reads as follows:
The general purpose of the Diocese of Southern Ohio Task Force on AIDS is to facilitate the public commitment of the Episcopal Church of Southern Ohio to a Christian ministry on AIDS. We agree that a Christian Ministry to persons with AIDS/ARC (AIDS related complex) needs no explanation; however a lack of one would.
And be it further
Resolved, that this Convention support the goals of the Task Force, which are as follows:
1) To encourage, implement and support education and awareness of AIDS in Southern Ohio.
2) To cooperate with and support public and private agencies currently working with AIDS.
3) To secure the commitment of Episcopal facilities to caring for persons with AIDS/ARC.
4) To report in writing to the 1988 Convention on the Task Force’s work and also on AIDS Ministries within the Diocese.
