R-86-03: A resolution on an Abortion Study Task Force

Be it resolved, that in accordance with the request of the 68th General Convention, that the Diocese of Southern Ohio initiate studies to consider the pastoral, personal and theological implications of abortion, and in accordance with Resolution R-85-7 of this Diocese at the 1985 Diocesan Convention,

Be it further resolved, that the “Abortion Study Task Force” appointed, continue to oversee a process of study which includes those local congregations willing to be involved, such study to include at least the following:

1) The official position of this Church as expressed in the resolutions on abortion adopted by the General Conventions of 1976, 1979 and 1982.

2) The study paper of the House of Bishops Committee on Theology entitled, “Theological Reflection Paper on Abortion.”

Be it further resolved, that information arising from this study be circulated throughout the diocese and reported to the National Episcopal Church’s Standing Commission on Human Affairs and Health.

Be it further resolved, that the Abortion Study Task Force report the results of its study at the 1987 Diocesan Convention.
