Be it resolved, that the 111th Convention of the Diocese of Southern Ohio reaffirm its opposition to apartheid, as stated repeatedly by this Convention and the General Convention of the Episcopal Church.
And be it further resolved, that we re-affirm our support and affection for Bishop Desmond Tutu and those who join him in seeking non-violent changes in South Africa, recognizing him to be an authentic prophet and voice of the oppressed in his country.
And be it further resolved, that in obedience to our call “fearlessly to contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression” and with the desire to demonstrate moral leadership in our communities, this Convention urge the Trustees of parish and diocesan funds to identify and divest their portfolios of all companies known to be doing business in South Africa and Namibia until such time as apartheid is ended. The Trustees are asked to report to Diocesan Council on their findings in timely fashion.
And be it further resolved, that copies of this resolution be sent to the Prime Minister of the Republic of South Africa, the President of the United States, and the Ohio Congressional delegation.
